After returning from the prison the Częstochowa Icon stopped at the church of the Mother of God Major in Alcala. The veneration lasted for the rest of the day. At 7.30 PM the Holy Mass was celebrated and next the Icon was carried to the famous Capilla de las Santas Formas (the Chapel of the Most Blessed Sacrament), where centuries ago a eucharist miracle occured.

In 1597, a man, having confessed his sins, full of contrition and remorse, gave back the 24 hosts he had stolen earlier. Since the priests were afraid of a provocation and thinking that they might have been poisoned, the hosts were left in a damp place to desintegrate. It turned out however, that they stayed completely fresh, which was confirmed by “experiments” carried out by a church team. The scientistis from the local university and the superiors of the Jesuits agreed to sign a document saying that the phenomenon could not be explained.

At the end of the 17th century at the cathedral of Alcala a magnificent chapel was built for the miraculous host. Since that time every fifth Sunday after Easter extraordinarily rich processions were held and they were attended by not only the local Catholics but enormous crowds of people who came to Alcala for the purpose.

Unfortunately, in 1936, during the bloody Spanish revolution all the three priests from the cathedral were murdered. They had earlier hidden the miraculous hosts to avoid desecration. The cathedral burnt and the city was ruined. After peace returned they tried to find the hosts but with not result. Only the memory and faith of the people remained. The cathedral and the chapel have been rebuilt. Today the chapel is the place of the permanent adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament.

The Mother of God stayed in the chapel for the night.
